Life 2.0 - Sail to restoration - Beyond the End of the World
Hemorrhagic strokes can be very serious and often lead to death. I was 45 years old when I had mine.. A massive brain hemorrage that trough me to a emergency brain surgery folowed by 20 day coma and and a severe hemiplegia on my left side, Basicly my left harm and leg are not recognized by my brain. I just can't sense them, which prevents my brain from sending orders to them, so basicly my left hand does not work. Hey, but not all is lost. I survived. I have a second chance. Ia new opportunity, or as I call it, my life 2.0 and I want to get the most out of it. , My old sailboat Noah was moored in Sines Marina since my first solo passage from Lisbon in 2018 just a few months before the stroke.
Finally after almost one year from hospital to Hospital doing Intensive physiotherapy I was able to walk again and start to rebuild my life. After realizing that I am still able to work, support myself, remain independent, and not be a burden to anyone, my vagabond thoughts began to flow again.I already made a journey around the world in my Life 1.0 but there are still a lot of places I could not reach in my motorcycle jorneys.. After crossing all latitudes by land.I want to cross all longitudes by sea now.. On the way, visiting some of my childhood cdream places like the Easter Island, the legendary Spice Islands and the remote atols of south Pacific.
But to sail my _Boat around the world first I have to be able to sail her around the Cape of St Vicent just 100 miles south of Sines. One step at a time at a time I can do it! So .I got back to my beloved Noah and started to adapt her to my new limitations.
Yes, I know I'm disabled and not as strong as I was before the stroke. But I have enough determination, and this time, I have some advantages on my side. I have time, I’m not in a race, and I can wait for better weather windows along the way for safer and more comfortable passages. I'm not trying to break any Guinness records. I'm used to being overlooked. When I was preparing for my around-the-world motorcycle journey, many said it was impossible to keep a regular job while riding through all the different latitudes. But I proved them all wrong, and I'm going to do the same now. If we have enough determination, nothing can stop us. It might slow us down, but it won't hold us back! My main goal is to sail around the world and, in the process, inspire others facing similar difficulties to show that even after challenging times, we can adapt and live out our dreams. I'm not a hero and don't want to be one, so I'll play it safe and follow the favorable winds and currents., as many ancient navigators followed before me. Going with the wind and following seas.
Project Tamata will sail along all longitudes beyond the end of the world, crossing Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope. It will explore the world through the eyes of my heroes, Fernão de Magalhães and Bernard Moitessier.

Return to work
What worried me the most was whether I could keep working as an rt photographer support myself, and stay independent, without being a burden to anyone because of my disability.

Return to water
Water has been a constant presence in my life for as long as I can recall. Whether I was swimming, surfing, or diving, I always felt my best when I was in the water. My first summer job was in the local swimingpool and I was back to it this time for hydrotherapy

Return to my boat
If I succeed the first couple of moves in my plan, I'd be all set to chase my ultimate dream: getting back to the ocean and hitting the waves again on my old boat, Noah.
