Life 2.0 - Sail to restoration - Beyond the End of the World
Hemorrhagic strokes can be very serious and often lead to death. I was 45 years old when I had mine.. A massive brain hemorrage that trough me to a emergency brain surgery, 20 days coma folowed by a severe hemiplegia on my left side, Basicly my left harm and leg are not recognized by my brain. I just can't sense them, which prevents my brain from sending them orders , so basicly my left hand does not work.
Hey, but not all is lost. I survived. I have a second chance. Ia new opportunity, or as I call it, my life 2.0 and I want to get the most out of it.
My old sailboat Noah was moored in Sines Marina since my first solo passage from Lisbon in 2018 just a few months before the stroke.
Finally after almost one year from hospital to Hospital doing Intensive physiotherapy I was able to walk again and start to rebuild my life. After realizing that I am still able to work, support myself, remain independent, and not be a burden to anyone, my vagabond thoughts began to flow again.I already made a journey around the world in my Life 1.0 but there are still a lot of places I could not reach in my motorcycle jorneys.. After crossing all latitudes by land.I want to cross all longitudes by sea now. beyond Cape horn and The end of the world. On the way, visiting some places that I've always dreamed about since I was a child. like Rapa Nui, Galapagos, the legendary Spice Islands and the remote atols of south Pacific.
Yes, I know I'm disabled and not as strong as I was before the stroke. But I have enough determination, and this time, I have some advantages on my side. I have time, I’m not in a race, and I can wait for better weather windows along the way for safer and more comfortable passages. I'm not trying to break any Guinness records. I'm used to being overlooked. When I was preparing for my around-the-world motorcycle journey, many said it was impossible to keep a regular job, keep up with my house mortgage while riding around the world . But I proved them all wrong, and I'm going to do the same now. If we have enough determination, nothing can stop us. It might slow us down, but it won't hold us back! My main goal is to sail around the world and, in the process, inspire others facing similar life difficulties to show that even after challenging times, we can adapt and live out our dreams.
I'm not a hero and don't want to be one, so I'll play it safe and follow the favorable winds and currents., as many ancient navigators followed before me. Going with the wind and following seas.
Project Tamata will sail along all longitudes beyond the end of the world, crossing Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope. It will explore the world through the eyes of my heroes, Fernão de Magalhães and Bernard Moitessier.

Use it or lose it -Rebuild my life
After the stroke and finally back to my home I was hit by the seriousness of my limitations. While in Hospital we are in a controled space, we live in a bubble, everyting is safe. Outside in the real world it’s the opposite of this, The sidewalk is irregular, the people are impatient, the environment is harsh, we feel so tired and just want to stay quiet in our corner. At this stage, we have the choice to surrender to our new condition and remain in a comfort zone, waiting for life to pass by, or to fight back and seek our inner drive to find the motivation to continue living a full and rewarding life.

Her name is Belle
She is not only a beautiful and a sturdy boat. She was made for me. My old Noah was great and i loved her , but getting her ready for sailing with my limitations would have taken a huge amount of effort and cash. Then, while I was wandering around the boatyard at Sines Marina, I spotted a blue hull with the most elegant lines I ever saw in a sailboat. Belle was wispering to me; Give me wind and I'll give you miles, thousands of miles. it was love at first sight

Life 2.0 Project Tamata
Being a Portuguese sailor, I feel a deep sense of pride in my nation's seafaring history. I've always been captivated by the Age of Discovery and the incredible voyages undertaken by fellow Portuguese mariners like Vasco da Gama, Bartolomeu Dias, and Fernão de Magalhães. In the Project Tāmata we will try to sail around the world inspired by the legendary navigator Bernard Moitessierthe and great Portuguese Explorers to Africa, Brazil, India and the Spice Islands.
